DHIS2 Climate & Health Academy

Build practical skills to support climate health data integrations and strengthen climate-informed health information systems

The Climate & Health Academy at the DHIS2 2026 Annual Conference is a unique learning experience designed for those working to improve the integration and use of climate data in the health sector. This Academy is grounded in two years of experience from the DHIS2 Climate & Health project, in which we worked with stakeholders in 10 countries in Africa and Asia to co-develop and test resilient, scalable climate-health tools, including solutions for climate data integration (the DHIS2 Climate App and Climate Tools) and for predictive modeling and forecasting of climate-sensitive diseases (the DHIS2 Modeling App and Chap Modeling Platform). This Academy is designed to make these digital solutions accessible to the broader DHIS2 community, and to give you an opportunity to share your insights and contribute to the future development of these tools.

This event runs in parallel to the DHIS2 Annual Conference, and the more general sessions on climate & health will be open to participants in both events. Participants who register for this Academy will also engage in more focused technical training sessions on how to implement and utilize these new DHIS2 tools to enable climate-informed health decision-making at the national and subnational level using locally owned data, while also drawing on the best available global climate, weather, and environmental datasets.

What Is the DHIS2 Climate & Health Academy?

The Academy is a dedicated program that brings together real-world experience, technical expertise, and innovative tools to help strengthen climate-resilient health systems through data.  This Academy will equip you with the knowledge and practical skills needed to integrate climate data sources into national DHIS2 systems  and generate actionable insights for health programmes.

Participants in the Academy will:

  • Explore advanced DHIS2 tools for climate data integration and predictive modeling for climate sensitive diseases.

  • Engage in hands-on training sessions focused on practical use cases and workflows, including implementation and utilization of the DHIS2 Climate App, Climate Tools, Chap Modeling Platform, and Modeling App.

  • Hear country presentations sharing lessons learned, needs, and innovations from implementing climate and health data initiatives.

  • Connect with peers and experts to discuss pressing challenges and future directions for climate and health data use with DHIS2.

Thematic & Technical Focus Areas

The Climate & Health Academy will focus on three core areas of climate-health data work with DHIS2:

Climate Data Integration

Learn how to bring environmental and weather data into your DHIS2 ecosystem and make it work alongside health program data-for example, by harmonizing temperature, rainfall, and other climatic indicators with disease surveillance or service delivery data.

Predictive Modeling & Forecasting

Get hands-on experience with predictive tools, including the Chap platform and DHIS2's Modeling App, that support data-driven forecasting of climate-sensitive health risks. These tools help national and subnational teams anticipate where health threats may occur and plan interventions proactively.

Programmatic Data Use

Attend informative presentations and join discussions with country-level stakeholders and global experts on the specific data needs, analytical outputs, and decision-support tools for climate-informed health programme management, and explore innovative approaches that leverage DHIS2 to meet these needs.

Who Should Attend?

The DHI2 Climate & Health Academy is designed for both:

  • DHIS2 implementers and modelers who want hands-on skill building with climate and predictive tools.

  • Program staff who want to make better use of climate data and predictive modeling approaches for health programmes

Whether you are just beginning to explore climate-health analytics or looking to deepen your modeling capabilities, the Academy will provide practical exercises, case studies, and expert guidance tailored to a range of technical backgrounds.

How it Fits into the Annual Conference Agenda

Some sessions of the Climate & Health Academy will overlap with the Annual Conference, meaning that interactive presentations and discussions are part of the common agenda and open to all Annual Conference attendees. However, the dedicated hands-on technical workshops will be reserved for Academy participants, ensuring focused learning while preserving the inclusive spirit of the Annual Conference.

All Academy participants will also have full access to the broader DHIS2 Annual Conference program, including plenaries, technical sessions, and community discussions. These general sessions can also be relevant to Climate & Health Academy participants as a way to deepen your understanding of DHIS2 as a foundation for climate and health.
